Question
Robin hood shoots an arrow into the air. if the arrow is shot straight up, and it reaches a height of 12cm, what is its initial speed. how long will it take for the arrow to return to where it was launched after it is shot straight up? If robin hood, while standing on a hill, shoot the arrow horizontally rather than staight up, calculate how far away from robin hood the arrow land (i e the range of the arrow). Assume that the arrow is shot with the same initial speed as in part (a) and that the arrow is 18 m above the ground when it is shot. (d) robin hood shots the arrow at an angle of 35^0 and it reaches a maximum height of 65 m above the ground. Calculate the initial speed of the arrow. Assume the arrow returns to the height it was shot from 19 m above the ground
Explanation / Answer
here I have a Doubt.... is it reaches 12 cm ?..... it is not correct i hope.
I will proceed height as 12 cm = 12 *10-2 m
a) Kinetic energy at launching point = potential energy at heighest point
from this Vi = ( 2 * g * h )1/2
= ( 2 * 9.8 * 12 *10-2)
= 1.53 m/s
b) Time of flight = 2Vi / g
= 2 * 1.53 / 9.8
= 0.312 s
c) Range is given as R = Vi T
here T =( 2 * h / g)1/2
= ( 2 * 18 / 9.8 )1/2 h is height of the Hill
= 1.9166 s
R = Vi T
= 1.53 * 1.9166
= 2.93 m
d)
