Question
A blue car travelling at constant velocity of 24.0 m/s is 350 m behind a bus travelling at 36 km/h. How long will it take the blue car to reach the bus? Calling x=0 the initial position of the blue car, how far from the initial position from the initial position does the blue car meet the bus?
A) time = 17.5 s, distance = 1200 m B) ) time = 25 s, distance = 1200 m
C) time = 87.5 s, distance = 600 m D) time = 25 s, distance = 600 m
Explanation / Answer
Vc = 24 m/sec
Vb = 36 km/h = 10 m/sec
lets assume bus travels "x" m, when car catches Bus
then distance traveled by bus = x m
distance traveled by car = (350 + x) m
time for car
tc = (350 + x)/24
time for bus will be
tb = x/10
tc = tb
(350 + x)/24 = x/10
3500 + 10x = 24x
14x = 3500
x = 3500/14 = 250 m
distance traveled by car = 350 + 250 = 600 m
time for car will be
tb = (350 + 250)/24 = 600/24
tb = 25 sec
Correct option is D
