Question
A block is on a frictionless table, on earth. The block accelerates at 4 m/s2 when a 10 N horizontal force is applied to it. The block and table are set up on the moon. The acceleration due to gravity at the surface of the moon is 1.62 m/s2. A horizontal force, equal in magnitude to the weight of the block on earth, is applied to the block when it is on the moon. The acceleration imparted to the block is closest to:
2 m/s2
Can you explain how to solve this and show work so I can learn please?
8 m/s2 4 m/s2 10 m/s2 6 m/s22 m/s2
Can you explain how to solve this and show work so I can learn please?
Explanation / Answer
From the Newton's second law
m = F/a = 10 N/4 = 2.5 kg
the accleration of the block on the moon is
weight of the block is
F = w = mg = 2.5 ( 10) = 25 N
a= F/m = 25N/2.5 = 10 m/s^2
