Question
The Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Life first appeared 3.5 billion years ago with prokaryotic cells. The first eukaryotic cell did not appear until 2.5 billion years ago approximately. We know this because of the fossil record. How did those first eukaryotic cells get here? What are your ideas concerning the evolution of the first eukaryotic cells? Do not concern yourself with how life first formed, rather just concern yourself with how eukaryotic cells first evolved. Please look at this from a scientific standpoint and not a religious point of view.
Explanation / Answer
Approximately 2.1 billion year ago first single-celled eukaryotes appeared. Algae is plant like protist that are photosynthetic eukaryotes with cell wall. A hypothesis on the evolution of eukaryotes consisting of a series of endosymbiotic events in which chloroplasts, mitochondria and other cellular structures were derived from small prokaryotes that had been engulfed by larger cells.
