Question
Chapter 1: Learning about Life You are a research scientist for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) interested in perform- ing a controlled experiment to determine the effects of caffeine on human blood pressure. One group of people will get caffeinated coffee and one will get decaffeinated coffee. Briefly explain why you would want that to be the only variable that differs between the two groups. 11. 12. A is a fake treatment given to patients in the control group. 13. A friend tells you her grandfather's pancakes are superior to all other pancakes because he puts only hand-churned butter from llamas into the batter. This is an example of what kind of evidence? Chapter Content: The Properties of Life Complete the following questions as you read the first chapter content -The Properties of Life: 1. A giant sequoia tree is very different from a human. List two properties these two organisms would exhibit despite all of their obvious differences. 2. A smart phone is not alive. List three characteristics of life that the phone does not exhibit. 3. List the properties of life.Explanation / Answer
11) the caffeine is the substance for which the research is carried out and hence to check it's result that substance should only be the variable to check the blood pressure.for this the blood pressure should be first evaluated before giving coffee and after the consumption of the coffee for the several days then should be measured and hence the control values and the caffenacaff and decaffeinated values should be checked and hence we can get the impact of the caffeine on the blood pressure.
12)in this particular experiment the decaffeinated group is a control group and hence the decaffeinated coffee is the fake treatment given to the patients .and hence answer will be decaffeinated coffee.it is done so to not allow the patients to discriminate themselves in group and give false reading to get the false results and it helps the examiner also to compare at different time intervals and give the conclusion.
13)it is an opinion or concescuss though it is evidence based but this would differ from person to person as everyone has their own likes and dislikes .they are liked by the authorsaufriend but can be a probability that may not liked by the author hence it can be considered as a concescuss.
1)it has a life as a human as it belongs to the kingdom plantae Sequoia can regenerate with the help of seeds and hence is a reproducing organism.
2) properties of life include growth and change smart phone can be changed but it can't grow it can't reproduce itself or can't be the one to grow with time and become older it will be the same phone even after 10 years .smart phone can't give a birth to the alike phone which can be done by a human being.h humans respire to live while smart are leat bothered or they are hardly affected to their surrounding except for that they require charging.
