Question

You are concerned about your friend choosing this relatively untested product, so you decide to carry out an experiment to test the product's claims. Your experiment involves feeding mice a standard lab diet supplemented with 0.324 g EnerGeel/kg food. The mice with which you are working eat, on average, 8 g food/100 g body weight/day. They are 18 weeks old with an average body weight of 37g 4. Calculate the average amount of food each mouse wll eat per day. 5. Calculate the dose of EnerGee! administered to each mouselg body weight/day 6. How does the dose of EnerGee! administered in your experiment compare to the suggested human dose? (Be careful with this comparison! Keep track of units!)

Explanation / Answer

4. Since, 8 g of food is consuming by 100 g mice perday (given), therefore, a mice with body wt 37 g will consume 8 X 37/ 100 = 2.96 g.

5. Since, 2.96 g is consuming by a 37 g mice, therefore, a dose administered per g is = 2.96/ 37 = 0.08 g.

6. The human dose will be calcuated according to body wt but here in case of human the body wt. will be takken in Kg. Therefore a dose of 0.08g/ g mice will be 80 gm/ Kg.
