Question
I'm having a problem with the last question, with ranking the final kinetic energies of the student-wheel system. I'm not sure how to use the hint. So far I know that the kinetic energy of the wheel is greatest in experiment 3, and then 1 and then 2, and that the kinetic energy of the student is greatest in experiment 3 and then 2 and then 1, but in terms of the student and the wheel added together, I know that the kinetic energy of experiment 3 is the greatest but then when it comes to deciding between experiment 1 and 2, it becomes more difficult. What is the hint supposed to be telling me?
Explanation / Answer
d) final KE of wheel ranking
KE3 > KE1 > KE2
final KE of student in all 3 cases = 0 (as energy is transferred into muscular dissipation)
so, totaol cKE comparision
KE3>KE1>KE2
