Question

Are worth a total of 95 points. Show your work clearly to justify your answers for partial to full credit. You get credit of doing something right. You lose credit for not explaining answers Don't forget the units If 6.0 times 10^21 electrons pass through a 20-ohm in 10 min, what is the potential difference across the resistor? (e=1.6 times 10^-19 C.) A battery, manufactured to have an emf of 25.0 V, but the terminal voltage is 22 V when the battery is connected across a 6.0 ohm resistor. What is the internal resistance of

Explanation / Answer

As given in the question,

No of electrons: ne = 6*10^21

Resistance: R = 20

Time: t = 10 min = 600 s

Charge of an electron: qe = 1.6^*10^-19 C

Current can be calculated using following formula,

  I  = [ne / t]*qe = [(6*10^21) / 600]*(1.6^*10^-19) = 1.6 A

The potential difference accross the resitor,

V  = I*R  = (1.6)*20 = 32 V
