Question
Suppose the electric circuit shown in the figure (Figure 1) models the circulatory system with 10,000 arterioles in parallel, each of resistance 96.0 ohm. Determine the net resistance of the arterioles. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. If the resistance of each arteriole increased by 50% because of narrowing, what now would be the net resistance of the 10,000 arterioles? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. By how much would the potential difference across these arteriole resistors change if the flow rate (current) is to remain the same? Express your answer using two significant figures.Explanation / Answer
A)
R = 96 ohm
when 10000 arterioles are in parallel,
Req = R / 10000
= 96/10000
=9.6*10^-3 ohm
B)
Now , R = 1.5*96 ohm = 144 ohm
Req = R /10000
= 144/10000
=1.4*10^-2 ohm
C)
deleta V = I* 9.6*10^-3
delta V' = I*1.4*10^-2
(delta V' - delta V) / delta V = (I*1.4*10^-2 - I* 9.6*10^-3) / (I* 9.6*10^-3)
= 0.46
