Question

Two packing crates of masses m_1 = 10.0 kg and m_2 = 3.60 kg are connected by a light string that passes over a frictionless pulley as in the figure. The 3.60-kg crate lies on a smooth incline of angle 39.0degree. Find the acceleration of the 3.60-kg crate. Your response is within 10% of the correct value. This may be due to roundoff error, or you could have a mistake in your calculation. Carry out all intermediate results to at least four-digit accuracy to minimize roundoff error, m/s^2 (up the incline) Find the tension in the string. Your response is within 10% of the correct value. This may be due to roundoff error, or you could have a mistake in your calculation. Carry out all intermediate results to at least four-digit accuracy to minimize roundoff error. N

Explanation / Answer

Ans :- Let m1 = 10kg m2= 3.6kg = 39

Applying the Newton’s second law to each object gives

              m1 a = m1g –T.................1

                m2 a = T- m2g sin....................2

adding these eqn we get

a =(( m1-m2sin)/m1+m2)g

= ((10 – 3.6 sin39)/10+3.6)*9.8

= 5.57m/s^2

Put in 1

10*5.57 = 10*9.8 –T

T = 42.3N
