after passing through first polarizer Intneisty reduces by 50%

so

I1 = 0.5 Io

after passing through second polarizer

I2 = 0.276 Io

theta3 = 90-42 = 48 deg


so

I3 = I2 cos^2 48

I3 = 0.276 Io* cos ^2(48)
