Question

This picture from an old magazine shows an entrepreneurial young man, named Chet, who travelled across the country towing a miniature camper. Use this information: v_Avg = 9.00 m/s, Chet's average cruising speed when he's riding his bike. P_Avg = 210. W. Chet's average power exertion rate P_max = 850. W, Chet's maximum power exertion rate m = 180. kg. the mass of Chet, his bike, and his camper What is the average force (including friction, air-resistance. etc.) that Chet must push against (At his cruising speed.) F_Avg = When peddling at maximum power, how much time will it take for Chet to increase his speed from zero to his cruising speed (v_Avg) t =

Explanation / Answer

(A) We know that

Power = Force * Velocity

So, Force = Power/Velocity = 210/9 = 23.33 N

(B) Force = Power/velocity = 850/9 = 94.44 N

Force = Mass * accerlation

Accerlation = Force/Mass = 0.525 m/s^2

we know

v(avg) = u + at

9 = 0 + 0.525 * t

t = 9/0.525 = 17.143 seconds
