Question
I'm having trouble with part B
Part A
What must be the minimum tensile strength of the cable (the minimum amount of tension it can sustain) if it is not to snap? The answer to this is 88N
Part B
Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the force exerted by the pivot on the beam.
I keep getting 133N and 12N but that's incorrect
Problem 12.36 You want to hang a 13-kg sign that advertises your new business. To do this, you use a pivot to attach the base of a 4.0-kg beam to a wall (Figure 1). You then attach a cable to the beam and to the wall in such a way that the cable and beam are perpendicular to each other. The beam is 4.0 m long and makes an angle of 37° with the vertical. You hang the sign from the end of the beam to which the cable is attached. Figur of 1 Figure 1of 1 370 pivotExplanation / Answer
B. Fx= T cos x= 88 cos 37= 70.28 N
Fy= 13*9.8+4*9.8 - 88 sin 37= 113.64 N
Comment in case any doubt..goodluck
