Question

So for my exercise physiology class I am trying to calculate my bone density to then calculate my body fat, but it does not seem to be working! Here are my results...

Male, age 26

(Skin Fold Caliper test)

Abdomen - 1.75in or 39.878mm

Chest - 1.21in or 30.734mm

Thigh - 1.35in or 34.29mm

The sum of these results is 104.902mm, and sum^2 = 11004.4296mm

The calculation that I am suppose to use is as followed; Bone Density = [1.10938-0.0008267 (sum) + 0.0000016 (sum^2) - 0.0002574 (age)] = 116.300373mm. When taking this value and putting it in my BF% calculation of...

%BF = [(4.95/Bone Density) - 4.5] x 100 = I get over 400%!!!!!!!!! I tried using both cm and mm and both are over 400% BF please any help would be greatly appreciated! Do my measurements (calipers) look off?

Explanation / Answer

Your inch to mm conversion is not correct. 1 inch = 25.4mm

Abdomen = 44.45 mm

Chest = 30.734 mm

Thigh = 34.29 mm

Sum = 109.474 mm = 0.109474m
