Question
Three cars (X, Y, and Z) begin accelerating at the same time. Car Z is more massive than car Y which is in turn more massive than car X. The net force on each is the same. After 5 seconds, which car has the largest momentum and kinetic energy? Car Y has both the largest momentum and KE. Car X has the largest momentum; Car Z has the largest KE. Car Z has teh largest momentum; they all have the same KE. They all have the same momentum; Car X has the largest KE. Car Z has the largest momentum; Car X has the largest KE. WHICH ONE IS IT?
Explanation / Answer
C) Car X has the largest momentum; Car Z has the largest KE
Car X will have the highest momentum as it has the highest mass
t is given that the net force on each is the same!.p = m*v => p = m * F/m * t => p = F * t. So If F = constant, P is also constant.
P = constant implies m*v = constant. If M is high , then V has to be smaller. Example: If P = 10 and M = 5, V = 2. If M = 2.5 , V = 4. So M and V are inversely related
