Question
Is the Voltage (Or Current) vs. Frequency Plot symmetrical (or not) about the resonant frequency point. Include in your answer the proper justification.
A. The voltage versus frequency plot is not symmetric about the resonance point. Prior to resonance XC = 1/(C) dominates. After resonance XL = L begins to dominate.
B. The voltage versus frequency plot is symmetric about the resonance point because at resonance voltage reaches the maximum and then drops back down.
C. The voltage versus frequency plot is not symmetric about the resonance point. Prior to resonance XL = L dominates. After resonance XC = 1/(C) begins to dominate.
D. The voltage versus frequency plot is symmetric about the resonance point because at resonance XC = XL.
The answer is not D. I chose that the first time and it was wrong.
Explanation / Answer
A. The voltage versus frequency plot is not symmetric about the resonance point. Prior to resonance XC = 1/(C) dominates. After resonance XL = L begins to dominate.
At a higher frequency XL is high and at a low frequency XC is high. Then there must be a frequency point were the value of XL is the same as the value of XC and there is. If we now place the curve for inductive reactance on top of the curve for capacitive reactance so that both curves are on the same axes, the point of intersection will give us the series resonance frequency point.
But The current versus frequency plot is symmetric about the resonance point.
