Question
A circuit consists of a battery and a resistor as shown below. Explain how you can increase the current supplied by the battery by adding a resistor to the circuit. Be sure to state between which pair of points, A, B, and c you would connect the resistor and whether the conductor between points A and B is to remain in the circuit. Use only words in complete sentences to explain your answer; no formulas. symbols (expect A, B, or C) or diagrams. EXPLAIN WHY. Same problem as above except you are to decrease the current supplied by the battery by adding a resistor to the circuit. Same rules as above. EXPLAIN WHY.Explanation / Answer
A) Increasing current by adding resistor;
To increase the current supplied by the battery add Resistor in parallel with Conductor . When they are in parallel connection the effective resistance will decrease so as the resistance decreases the current will increase.
so Conductor should remain b/w A and B and RESISTOR b/w B and C , inorder to place them in parallel C should to be connected to point A , i.e A and C should be coincidental.
B) decreasing current by adding resistor;
To decrese the current Resistor should be placed in SERIES with conductor, so the Effective resistance will increase and current will decrease ( current is an inversely proportional quantity with Resistance)
So conductor Should be b/w A and B and resistor should be b/w B and C as shown in given figure.
