Can some one please explain why these are the answers to the following question. I know your supposed to apply lenz law but i can make sense of the figure
A solenoid carrying a current I is moving toward a metal ring, as shown in (Figure 1). Part A In what direction (as seen from the solenoid) is a current induced in the ring? counterclockwise clockwise Part B In what direction will the induced current be if the solenoid now stops moving toward the ring, but the current in it begins to decrease? counterclockwise clockwiseExplanation / Answer
a)
as the solenoid goes towards the ring, the magnetic flux through the ring increases. The ring resists this change in flux by inducing current in it and cancel out the magnetic field by the solenoid. to have the magnetic field by ring in opposite direction to the magnetic field by solenoid , we must have the current in the ring in countercloskwise direction as suggested by right hand rule.
b)
as the current in solenoid start decreasing, the magnetic flux through the ring decreases. The ring resists this change in flux by inducing current in it and support the magnetic field by the solenoid. to have the magnetic field by ring in same direction to the magnetic field by solenoid , we must have the current in the ring in closkwise direction as suggested by right hand rule.
