Question
The following circuit has capacitors of the following capacitances: C1 = 3.80 ?F , C2 = 7.35 ?F , C3 = 6.15 ?F , C4 = 4.05 ?F , C5 = 3.05 ?F , and C6 = 8.35 ?F . V1 = 23.0 V . (Figure 1)
I found the equivalent capicatnce which is 8.08uF? Could you show me each step and explain the rest (including how to enter calculator if involves inverting an exponent etc)
Part B What is the maximum charge on C1?Give your answer in microCoulombs.
Part C What is the maximum charge on C5?
Part D What is the maximum voltage on C2? Give your answer in Volts.
Part E What is the maximum voltage on C4?
Part F What is the maximum voltage on C6?
Part G What is the maximum energy stored within the circuit when the capacitors are fully charged?
Explanation / Answer
c5 and c6 are in series c56 = 3.05*8.35/3.05+8.35 = 2.23
c56 and c4 are in parellel c456 = 4.05+2.33 = 6.38
c1,c2 and c3 are in series c23 = 7.35*6.15/13.5 = 3.35
c123 = 3.8*3.35/7.15 = 1.78
c123 and c456 are in parallel ctot = 6.38+1.78 = 8.16 *10^-6 F
energy = 1/2cv^2 = 1/2*8.16*10^-6*23^2 = 0.0022 J
c123 and c456 are in parallel so in parallel combination voltage remains same
v123 = v456 = 23 v
q123 = c123*v123 = 8.16*10^-6*23 = 1.88*10^-4 C
in series q same so q1= q2= q3 = 1.88*10^-4 C
q456 = c456*v456 = 6.38*10^-6*23 = 1.47*10^-4 C
c4 and c56 are in parallel so v4 = v56 = 23 v
q4 = c4*v4 = 4.05*10^-6*23 = 0.93*10^-6 C
q56 = v56*c56 = 2.23*10^-6*23 = 0.51*10^-4 C
q5 = q6 = 0.51*10^-4 C
