Question

Q: Why would a cell use SOS repair, considering that it introduces mutations?

My answer is something along the lines of..SOS repair is used as a final solution to repair incredibly damaged DNA. It states that SOS repair can cause mutations, but I 'm assuming that SOS repair will treat the main issues that are present (such as premature stop codons) with the ultimate goal of creating some sort of functional protein, even if mutations are present. Is this somewhat correct? Thank you very much for your helo

Explanation / Answer

Sos response is ultimate solution when the DNA damage is so high that if they are not replicating those sites of DNA, the cell will die . That's why they choose SOS repair for survive.Sos repair sometimes as deleterious that cell can also die but sometimes cell survive with some minute mutation that are negligible and in that situation it proves profitable for them . Only in the time of sos repair there is no template strand by which a polymerase v can replicate . That's why polymerase v introduce random bases in that zone ,and it sometime works sometime does not.
