Question

I could not solve this problem...please do this for me guys...I am begging you

1. (12 points) A spring requires a force of 0.750 N to compress it 0.250 cm. Now, a rifle bullet with mass 8.00 g is fired horizontally at a 0.992 kg block, resting on a frictionless, horizontal surface, and attached to the spring (see figure). The bullet strikes and embeds itself in the block, causing the spring to compress 15.0 cm before the block comes to rest. a) (2 pts) Find the spring constant of the spring b) (3 pts) Find the kinetic energy of the bullet block combination immediately after impact? (3 pts) Find the magnitude of the velocity of the bullet-block combination just after impact. c) 15.0 c d) (4 pts) What was the speed of the bullet immediately prior to impact?

Explanation / Answer

let spring constant be k

a) F = k*x

0.750 = 0.00250*K

k = 300

b) let speed of bullet be v before collision

by conservation of energy

1/2*m*v2=1/2*k*x2

v = 29.04 m/sec

let speed og block + bullet after collision be V

by conservation of momentum

m*v=(m+M)V

V = 0.008*29.04/(0.008+0.992)=0.2323 m/sec

kinetic energy = 1/2(0.008+0.992)*0.23232 = 0.02645 Joules

c) velociyty as calculated aboce V = 0.2323m/sec

d)prior to impat bullet velocity is

v = 29.04m/sec
