I tried doing this problem using the area underneath the curve, from 1.20 to 5.20 but i couldn't get the right Could someone point me answer.

Explanation / Answer

Distance travelled = area under curve between 1.2 to 5.2 sec.

Divide interval in 3 parts-

1) 1.2 - 3 sec,

2) 3 - 5 sec,

3) 5 - 5.2 sec.

Total distance = total area = (3 - 1.2)*4 + (4 + 5.3)*0.5*(5 - 3) + (5.2 - 5)*5.3 = 17.56 m.
