Question
Your answer is partially connect. Try again. The drawing shows a person looking at a building on top of which an antenna is mounted. The horizontal distance between the person's eyes and the building is 80.9 m. In part a the person is looking at the base of the antenna, and his line of sight makes an angle of 39.1 with the horizontal. In part b the person is looking at the top of the antenna, and his line of sight makes an angle of 42.7 with the horizontal. How tall is the antenna? 42.7 39.1 80.9m 80.9m 65.7 the tolerance is +/-2%Explanation / Answer
Horizontal distance, dx = 80.9 m
We know,
tan(39.1) = dy1/dx
dy1 = dx * tan(39.1)
dy1 = 80.9 * tan(39.1) m
dy1 = 65.75 m
tan(42.7) = dy2/dx
dy2 = dx * tan(42.7)
dy2 = 80.9 * tan(42.7) m
dy2 = 74.65 m
Height of tower, h = dy2 - dy1
h = 74.65 - 65.75 m
h = 8.9 m
