Question
A horse (mass 700 kg) is pulling a cart (mass 200 kg) with a stretchable connection between them. At some time, the horse is moving with an acceleration of 2m/s^2 but the cart isn't moving at all yet. At this time, the horse is exerting a force of 100 N on the cart. In each question, give an answer and a brief explanation of your reasoning. Parts (a), (b), and (c) require a numerical answer. What is the force by the cart on the horse (numerical answer)? Give your reasoning. What is the net force on the cart (numerical answer)? Give your reasoning. What is the net force on the horse (numerical answer)? Give your reasoning. How is the horse able to move forward when the cart is pulling backwards on it? What force might be responsible for this?Explanation / Answer
a) as the cart is not moving it will also exert the same force given by the horse. so 100 newtons
b) the net force on the cart is zero... along forward 100N by horce and along backwrad the frictional force is acting
c) the net force on the horse is 100 newton
