Question

can you please help me with these

1. Starting from rest, a racquetball rolls down a track with an acceleration 0.238m/s2. When it reaches a speed 0.454m/s2, how many meter has the ball rolled?

2.Starting from rest, a racquetball rolls down a track with an acceleration 0.141m/s2. What is its speed (in units of m/s) after rolling 1.14m?

3. Using the smart gate method, you measured that the racquetball's speeds are V1= 0.127 m/s and V2= 0.361 m/s when it passess the top and bottom smart gates respectively. If the separation of the gates is 0.500m, what is the acceleration of the ball?

a. 0.093 m/s2

b. 0.100m/s2

c. 0.114 m/s2

d,0.310 m/s2

4. A baseball is dropped from rest an an initial position of 57.07m. You measure its position again at a later time to be 19.84, how many seconds has it been falling? (Hint: What is the ball's acceleration?)

5. Starting from rest, a racquetball rolls down a track. 2.554seconds later, the ball rolls a distance 1.29meter, what is the acceleration (in units of m/s2 ) of the ball?

Explanation / Answer

1.

Use V2 -U2 =2as

V-final velocity

U- initial velocity

a- acceleration

S-distance travelled

Here u=0,v=0.454, a= 0.238

0.454×0.454 = 2×0.238×s

Solving for distance s = 0.433 m

2.

V2 -0=2×0.141×1.41

Final velocity v =0.630m/s.

3.

0.3612 -0.1272 =2×a×0.5

Acceleration a = 0.114 m/s2

4. Ball travel distance = 57.07-19.84

= 37.23

Using S = ut+1/2at2

  37.23 = 0×t + 1/2 ×9.8× t2

as it is freely falling a is 9.8

Solving for t , t= 2.75 s

5.

Use

S= ut + 1/2at square

1.29=0×t+ (1/2)×a×(2.554)2

solving for a

Acceleration is = 0.39999m/s2
