CREFLECT&DISCUSS If you could have seen the landscape that existed in this part of Pennsykania about 200 million years ago (when the bodies of igneous rock were lava), what else would you have seen on the landscape besides valleys, streams, lakes, and fields? Explain your reasoning.

Explanation / Answer

Answer A: The igneous body at A is a dike that are vertical magmatic intrusions.

Answer B: The body marked B to the left is a dike while the the one marked to the right is a sill.

Answer C: There are a number of possibilities for this answer. The intrusions would be near the surface and would give rise to geysers and hot water springs and the entire area would have thermal activity if there was groundwater available within the zone. These thermal features can be currently seen prominently in Iceland and even though the climate is different, the features would be more of less similar.

Other than these, the place would have lava flows which would extrude onto the surface of the area given on the map and would form active volcanoes. The place would have a number of fissures as well that would allow the lava to flow lateral to the volcanoes.
