QUESTION 5 10 points Save Answer From before: Asealed 12 cubic meter tank is filled with 2000 moles of oxygen gas (diatomic at an initial temperature of 270 K. The gas is heated to a final temperature of 390 K. What is the heat transferred to the gas, in MJ? (Hint: this is a diatomic gas, look up the average kinetic energy for a diatomic, not monoatomic gas in textbook) O 2.0 O 3.0 O 4.0 O 5.0 O 6.0

Explanation / Answer

Initial kinetic energy of gas = 5/2nRT

                                            = 5/2 * 2000 * 8.314 * 270

                                            = 11.2239 MJ

Final kinetic energy of gas = 5/2nRT

                                            = 5/2 * 2000 * 8.314 * 390

                                            = 16.2123 MJ

Thus, heat transferred to gas = 16.2123 - 11.2239

                                               =   5 MJ
