Question
The above picture shows 4 P-V grophs of pistons going clockwise through a thermodynamic cycle. The pistons contain an ideal gas. The graphs all have the same scale, and same amount of gas. Note that 1atm= 10^5 N/m^2
In which diagram is the net work negative as you go all the way around the cycle? A, B, C, D, more than one, or none of the above.
In which diagram is the least heat transferred as you go all the way around the cycle? A, B, C, D, more than one of the above, none of the above.
In which diagram is the most work done as you go all the way around the cycle? A, B, C, D, more than one, none of the above.
Calculate the work done all the way around the cycle for graph A.
PLEASE PROVIDE EXPLANATIONS!!!
P(atm) V (L) Platm) I VIL P(atm) I VILI Platm) V (L)Explanation / Answer
If the cycle goes clock wise then work is done by the system, Work done by the system is taken Positive in some systems , You check yours !
a)So none are negative work
b) Least heat transfer is the one where area enclosed by the cycle is the least , So check the areas of each cycle so A,B and C all have the same area, and less also so answer is A,B and C
c) Most work is biggest area , So D
d) Get the area 0.5*5*10^5*3*0.001 = 750 J
1 L= 0.001 m^3 and 1 atm= 10^5 Pa
