U.S. Hurricane Monetary Damagse Note: Allison was a tropical storm. Harvey damage is estimated and is likely to increase. 1. Based on the comparison between Tables 1A and 1B, is there a relationship between storm intensity and damage? 2. Why? 3. What factors could produce more damage from a "weaker" hurricane?Explanation / Answer
From Table 2 it is clear that as the storm intensity increases, the damage caused by the Hurricane accordingly.
As a Storm with higher intensity means higher speed, bigger size, high rotational energy etc that will obviously cause high destruction and damage to life and property.
3.The factors which decide the intensity of a storm are its size, translational speed, angle of approach to the coast, landfall location, and the bottom slope at that location. So, if the abovesaid factors are intensified for a weaker hurricane, it may cause more damage.
