Assignment Gradebook ORION ment FULL SCREEN PRINTER VERSION BACK NEXT Chapter 26, Concept Question 06 In the figure, a wire that carries a current consists of three sections with different radii. In the following questions, you will be asked to rank these sections. If multiple sections rank equally, use the same rank for each, then exclude the intermediate ranking (i.e. if objects B, and C must be ranked, and A and B must both be ranked first, the ranking would be 1, C:3). sections rank equally, rank each as '1'. Rank the sections according to the current, greatest first. Section A

Explanation / Answer

(a)current;

the electric charge is conserved and cannot be created or destroyed. so the same current enters all the secitions A , B and C. so current is same in all of them and hence A=B=C.

(B) current density j;

current density j= current/area= current/pir^2

so more radius means less current density. so B>C>A.

(c) electric field;

we know that j= sigma E

sigma = conductivity which is same for all the three sections as the material is same,

so E= j/sigma

so ,more current density means mre electric field

So B>C>A.
