Question

Could you solve this question for me?

The figure below shows five resistors and two batteries connected in a circuit. What are the currents I_1, I_2, and I_3? (Consider the following values: R_1 = 1.20 Ohm, R_2 = 2.18 Ohm, R_3 = 3.10 Ohm, R_4 = 4.04 Ohm, R_5 = 6.20 Ohm. Due to the nature of this problem, do not use rounded intermediate values in your calculations-including answers submitted in WebAssign. Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) I_1 1.31348 = A I_2 1.4123 = A I_3 -0.0988 = A

Explanation / Answer

Writting the loop equation for the upper loop,

120 - I1*R5 - I1*R3 - I3*R2 = 0 -----------(i)

Writting the loop equation for the lower loop,

9+I3*R2-I2*R4-I2*R1 = 0 --------------(ii)

Writting other equation,

I1-I2 = I3 --------------(iii)

adding equation i and ii,

129 = (R3+R5)*I1 + (R1+R4)*I2 => 9.3*I1 + 5.24*I2 = 129

from equation i and iii,

120 = (R5+R3+R2)*I1 - R2*I2 => 11.48*I1 - 2.18*I2 = 120

Solving equation we get, I1 = 11.3145 A and I2 = 4.53721 A and I3 = 6.77729 A
