1. Answer 1 (first four subparts)
1) Cell phone body:
Generally used material for cell phone body are metal, plastic and glass.
Polycarbonate is the most widely used plastic due to its high temperature resistance also due to its high flexibility. It also provides an advantage of lower cost over metal and glass.
Commonly used metals for cell phone body are aluminium and magnesium. Metals provide a better reception of signals. Also metals have high thermal conductivity, so better performance is achieved with metals in thermally limited situations. Although metals cannot be used for external casing, as they are prone to corrosion.
Glass when used as a material for cell phone body is most rigid and scratch resistant, although it is brittle and shatters easily. It does not attenuate radio signals and hence internal antennas can be used.
2) Laptop computer body:
The major requirement to be fullfilled by the material of a laptop computer body is that it should be able to bear high amount of heat and does not deform due to uneven amount of heating. Also the material should be light weighted to carry the laptop around easily. So, generally used materials are plastics like high quality carbon fiber or metal such as aluminium to provide light weight property.
3) Car body (other than steel):
Different materials other are used for making car bodies. Materials other than steel used for car bodies are iron and aluminium. Although, iron is not very much durable and flexible over steel. On the other hand, aluminium provides the advantage of being light weight and corrosion resistant but proves to be an expensive choice in comparison to steel.
4) Car engine body (other than cast iron):
Material required to build a car engine body must have high strength and low weight. Generally used material for making of car engine body is cast iron, but with development of technology, new metals and alloys are used for the same. A commonly used alloy is the aluminium alloy used with petrol engine bodies due to its light weight and greater surface finish. A new material called graphite cast iron is also used these days in making of car engine bodies due to its light weight and better strength than normal cast iron used.
