What is the relationship between the severe soil degradation in northern Texas. western Oklahoma. eastern New Mexico. eastern Colorado. western Kansas, southern Nebraska. and southeastern Wyoming and the amount of vegetation that you can see on the ground? What physical and cultural factors might be involved in creating this pattern? A Scarce vegetation on the ground and in cultivated farmlands correspond to the high degradation of soils in the states listed Cultural factors associated with this, include farming techniques that increase soil erosion. while physical factors include droughts. B. Scarce vegetation on the ground and in cultivated farmlands correspond to the high degradation of soils in the states listed. Cultural factors associated with this, include farming techniques that increase soil erosion. while physical factors include abundant precipitations. C. Soil degradation is evident in northern Texas. western Oklahoma and eastern New Mexico. However soil status seems to be excellent in eastern Colorado. western Kansas. southern Nebraska. and southeastern Wyoming. This is surely due to the fact that in these latter states farmers adopt soil conservation measures and that here droughts are more frequent. D. Scarce vegetation on the ground and in cultivated farmlands correspond to the high stability of soils in the states listed. Cultural factors associated with this, include farming techniques that decrease soil erosion. while physical factors include abundant precipitations.

Explanation / Answer

Answer A: Dust bowl is the 97 million acre area in the Southern great plains of US where dust storms were prominent during mid 1930s. It encompasses north eastern New Mexico, western Kansas, Oklahoma, southeastern Colorado and Texas. Between 1930 and 1940, there was a severe drought in great plains of United States. The dryland farming and overgrazing of the grasslands by the cattle destroyed these grasslands. The bare land was exposed to effect of strong winds. With the onset of drought in 1930, the overgrazed and overfarmed land gets eroded by wind and begins to blow in the form of dust storms. The extended drought and poor farming practices resulted in wind erosion and contributed to dust bowl.
