Question
An ambient 3.0 T field Is pointing into the page from your perspective. Two wires are placed into the field separated by a distance of 10 mm and bearing a current of 0.5 amps. a. What force does each wire feel from the ambient field? b. If the currents are going the same way In the wires, will they move toward or away from each other? Sketch a drawing showing how you used to right hand rule to determine this. A current carrying loop has a current of 4 amps running along its perimeter and radius of 5 mm. Its magnetic moment is pitched at degrees from an ambient magnetic field of 5.1 T. What is the torque this loop experiences?Explanation / Answer
(a) here B = 3 T I = 0.5 Amp r = 10 mm = 0.010 m
so the foce on each wire is given by
F1/L = F2/L = uoI1I2 / (2 x pie x r)
= (4 x 3.14 x 10-7 x 0.5 x 0.5) / (2 x 3.14 x 0.010)
= 50 x 10-7 N/m Ans
(b) when the current fow in the same direction on the parallel wires there is attraction force produced it means both wires attract to each other
from right hand rule the curl fingers as if rotating vector I into vector B the thumb is then the direction of the magnetic force
(c) here B = 5.1 T I = 4 Amp Q = 35o r = 5 mm = 0.005 m
as we know that
T = I (A x B) = IAB.sinQ
T = 4 x (3.14 x 0.005 x 0.005 ) x 5.1 x sin35o
T = 0.0009185
