Question

I am having trouble with the second one and beyond. I have attached a picture. I understand that the are both in series and in parallel but I am unsure how to divvy up the voltage between C1, C2, and C3. I have attached a picture.

Thank you in advance!

Given that the battery is 40 v and that c1 2 HF, c2-6 HF. c3- o.5 HF. and Vi- 10 V. V1- 10 volts ca 0.5 F 40 V ce you answers on whis sheet. Stoele tre work to mis sheet and pur Th.s et ne end of the report How much charge is on C1? How much charge is on C2? What is the voltage drop across C2? What is the voltage drop across c3? What is the voltage drop across Cx? How much charge is on C3? How much charge is on Cx? GO What is CX? How much total energy is stored in the circuit? What is the total capacitance present in this circuit?

Explanation / Answer

1. Q1 = C1 V

= (2 uF) (10)

= 20 uC

2. series capacitors have same charges.

Q2 = 20 uC

3. V2 = Q2 / C2 = 20uC / 6uF = 3.33 Volt

4. V3 = 40 - 10 - 3.33 = 26.67 Volt

5. Vx = 26.67 Volt

6. Q3 = C3 V3 = 0.5uF x 26.67 = 13.33 uC

7. Qx = 20 - 13.33 =6.67 uC

8. Cx = Qx / Vx = 6.67uC / 26.67 V

= 0.25 uF

9. U = Q V / 2

= 40 x 20 x 10^-6 / 2

= 400 x 10^-6 J

10. Ceq = Q / V = 20 uC / 40 V = 0.5 uF
