Question
A girl is on a skiing trip. Unfortunately she skiis off the slopes and ends up slipping towards the end of the skii mountain. Luckily the girl is able to hold on to a near by tree branch. She doesn't fall off the cliff but holds on to the branch for dear life until a friend comes to help her out. She weighs 58.0598, including the weight of her skiis she still has attached to her feet. The distance from the top of the cliff where she is hanging and the floor if she were to let go is 15.24 meters. What are the forces keeping the girl suspended from the cliff?
I would really appreciate an explanation and work, please and thank you in advance!
Explanation / Answer
the forces that keeping the girlhanging are
FORCE EXERTED BY THE TREE ON THE GIRL
the girl exerts force on the tree and the tree exerts equal and opposite force on the girl which balances its weight
so
F = Mg
F = 568.986 N
