Question

Centripetal Force Worksheet Part I Feeling the Force What happened to the force on the string as the speed of the spinning stopper increased? 2. What happened to the force on the string as the radius ofthe circle increased with speed being held constant? 3. What would happen if you were to let go of the string? Measuring the Force Time (sec) Radius (m) Sec (n) Stopper (kg) Hof Washers 12 g 12 g 1. Calculate the centripetal force, F, for each trial show key calculations include units of kg m/sec ar NRwsers (N). Force (N)

Explanation / Answer

1. As the centripetal force varies as the square of the angular speed, if the velocity of the stopper is increased, the tension in the string will increase

2. The centripetal force is inversely proportional to the radiusof the roatation circle. So if radius is increased, the centripetal force will decrease and hence tension of the string will decrease.

3. If we let go of the string, the stopper flies away tangential to the rotation circle

I am not sure what washers mean in this experiment. Please mention about it and I will do the calculation part as well.
