Question

The drawing shows three identical springs hanging from the ceiling. Nothing is attached to the first spring, whereas a W - 6.46-N block hangs from the second spring. A block of unknown weight hangs from the third spring. From the drawing, determine the spring constant (in N/m) and the weight of the block hanging from the third spring. (a) the spring constant N/m (b) the weight of the block hanging from the third spring N A pendulum of length L_1 has a period T_1 = 0.940 s. The length of the pendulum is adjusted to a new value L_2 such that T_2 = 1.00 s. What is the ratio L_2/L_1?

Explanation / Answer

Spring constant of each spring here is same say it is K

now intial length of the spring = 20 cm

when W = 6.46 N is added

useing F = k dx

K = F/dx

K = 6.46/(0.35-0.2)

K = 43.06 N/m

-----------------

now by using this k,

we can write that

F = k dX

F = 43.06 * (0.5-0.2)

F = 13 N
