Question
The figure shows a closed surface. Along the flat top face, which has a radius of 1.1 cm, a perpendicular field B of magnitude 0.20 T is directed outward. Along the flat bottom face, a magnetic flux of 0.90 mWb is directed outward. What are the (a) magnitude and (b) direction (inward or outward) of the magnetic flux through the curved part of the surface?
Chapter 32, Problem 002 The figure shows a closed surface. Along the flat top face, which has a radius of 1.1 cm, a perpendicular field of magnitude 0.20 T is directed outward. Along the flat bottom face, a magnetic flux of 0.90 mWb is directed outward. What are the (a) magnitude and (b) direction (inward or outward) of the magnetic flux through the curved part of the surface?Explanation / Answer
The flux through the top is = (0.20 T)°*(pi r^2)
=1.9x10^-4Wb
The flux through the bottom is = 0.90mWb
Since the net flux must be zero then the fluxthrough the sides must be negative and exactlycancel the total of the previously mentionedfluxes. Thus (in magnitude) the flux though thesides is 1.09 mWb
2. it is inward.
