5) Two uncharged metal cans are placed on a table touching each other, as in the picture below. A positively charged rod is brought near but not touching the cans. can Acan B a) If the cans are moved apart from each other by a person with rubber gloves on while the rod is still nearby, what will be the final charge state of each can? Explain your reasoning. b) Return to the original situation. If the cans are moved apart from each other by a person without rubber gloves on, what will be the final charge state of each can? Explain your reasoning.Explanation / Answer
Let the charge of rod be '+Q', so when it is brought near can A, it repels positive charge and the can A gets Charge '-Q' and can B gets charge '+Q'.
A) Now when they are seperated with rubber gloves, the charge on them stays intact. So the charges on individual cans are Can A = '-Q' and Can B = '+Q'.
B) But when they are seperated without wearing rubber gloves their charges flow through the hand and they become neutral. So both cans will have no charge this time
