Explanation / Answer
(a)
Let, time taken untill vehicle reaches speed 10 m/s = t1
from kinematic equation,
v = u + at
t1 = 10 / 3 = 3.33 s
Time taken when it slows untill stops,
t2 = 10 / 1 = 10 s
Time elapsed from start to stop,
t = 3.33 + 10
t = 13.33 s
(b)
Displacement of vehicle untill reaches speed 10 m/s,
d1 = ut + (1/2)at^2
d1 = 0 + (1/2)*3*(3.33)^2 = 33.33 m
Displacement when it slows untill stops,
d2 = ut - (1/2)at^2
d2 = 10*10 - (1/2)*1*10^2 = 50 m
Total displacement from start to stop,
D = 33.33 + 50
D = 83.33 m
