Question

Item 19 190f 20 You are on the roof of the physics building of your school, 46.0 m above the ground. (See the figure.) (Figure 1) Your physics professor, who is 1.80 m tall, is walking alongside the building at a constant speed of 1.20 m/s Part A If you wish to drop an egg on your professor's head, at what horizontal distance should the professor be when you release the egg, assuming that the egg encounters no appreciable air drag. SubmitReo Request Answer Figure 1 of 1 Provide Feedback Next> 46.0 m u = 1.20 m/s 1.80 m

Explanation / Answer

let the distance be x meters

If the egg is dropped, the time taken by egg is t seconds

In order to hit professors head , distance travelled by egg will be 46 - height of professor = 44.2 meters

Using s=ut + 0.5*a*t2 ; 44.2 = 0 + 0.5*9.81*t2 ==> t = 3.0018 seconds.

Therefore, x = speed of professor * t = 3.6021 meters
