Question 7 A 9.0 V battery has an internal resis The measured voltage (emf of external resistor R? the battery) is 9.0 V. When connected to a resistor R the terminal voltage is 8.s V and the current is 0.12 A. What is the value of the Submit Answer Tries o/99 What is the internal resistance r of the battery? Submit Answer Tries o/99 What is the energy dissipated in the battery in 4.6mn Submit Answer Tries 0r99 When a second identical battery is added in series and the external resistor is R - 22 S2 what is the resulting current? Submit Answer Tries 0/99

Explanation / Answer

We know that terminal voltage is,

V= E-ir

So,

8.8=9-0.12r

r=5/3 ohm.

Now,

I=V/R+r

0.12=9/R+1.667

R=73.33 ohm.

Internal resistance r=1.667 ohm

Energy dissipated in the battery in 4.6 min will be

P=EIt

=9*.12*4.6*60

=298.08J

When another battery is connected then current will be,.

I=18/3.33+22

I=0.712A
