Given momentum of ship p = 1.25 * 10^9 kg-m/s
we know
momentum = mass * speed
p = m * v
part a)
Given speed v = 46 km/h
v = 46 * 1000 / 3600 m/s
v = 12.77 m/s
from p = m * v
1.25 * 10^9 = m * 12.77
mass of large ship m = 9.788 * 10^7 kg
part b)
momentum of artillery shell is
p1 = 1100 * 275
p1 = 3.025 * 10^5 kg-m/s
comparing with momentum of ship we get
p / p1 = 1.25 * 10^9 / (3.025 * 10^5)
4132.3 times larger
