Predict/Calculate Problem 24.19 A 20.0-AuF capacitor is connected to an ac generator with an rms voltage of 114 V and a frequency of 60.0 Hz. Part A What is the rms current in the circuit? Express your answer to three significant figures and include appropriate units 0.860 A Submit My Answers Give Up Correct Part B If you wish to increase the rms current, should you add a second capacitor in series or in parallel? Parallel Series Submit My Answers Give Up CorrectExplanation / Answer
B)
Current, I = V/Xc
= V/(1/2*pi*f*C)
= V*(2*pi*f*C)
Now, to increase current, net capacitance must increase
So, for I = 1.75 A,
1.75 = 114*(2*pi*60*C)
So, C = 40.7 uC
So, the extra capacitance needed = 40.7- 20 = 20.7 uF = 0.0207 nF
