Try again. In the figure, a square of edge length 25.0 cm is formed by four spheres of masses m1 4.90 g, m2 3.10 g, m3 1.50 g, and m4- 4.90 g. In unit-vector notation, what is the net gravitational force from them on a central sphere with mass ms 2.30 g? Numbe the tolerance is +/-5% Click if you would like to Show work for this question: Open Show Work

Explanation / Answer

here,

distance between corner masses and m5 , r = a/1.41 = 0.177 cm

as the masses m1 and m4 are equal

the mangnitude of force is equal and in opposite direction

so, they cancels out

the net force is due to m2 and m3 , F = G * m2 * m5 / r^2 - G * m3 * m5 /r^2

F = 6.67 * 10^-11 * 0.0023 /0.177^2 * ( 0.0031 - 0.0015) N

F = 7.83 * 10^-15 N

the direction is towards m2
