Question
In the movie Jingle All the Way, how does this scene defy the law of physics?
At the end of the movie, Schwarzenegger flies on a jet pack and captures his son falling from a building. He was flying horizontally and caught him right out of the sky. The weight of the kid would have caused a change in direction, even if only for a moment, yet he flies straight ahead.
I know it has to do with balanced and unbalanced forces, but how specifically does this scene defy the law of physics? How can you explain it by referencing balanced and unbalanced forces?
And what would have happened if science was accurate? What direction would they have went?
Explanation / Answer
Balanced force means if two forces are in equal magnitude and are in opposite direction acting on an object then body is said to be in state of equilibrium..but according to question father is trying to catch his son ..The scene never be achieved according to physics law..as boy is having some weight due this gravity push him in downward direction always.by gravitational force. His father is moving horizontally with jet pack he will never catch his son because both the child and his father both have force acting on them ,since his father is moving horizontally and son is moving vertically ,when his father will come near his son his son will move down.In order to catch his son, the father should move with some angle with horizontal axis ..then only he can catch him..
