Question
I already did most of the work for part A, just getting the wrong answer. So, here's the question and work I've done for part A:
At a certain location, the Earth's magnetic field has a magnitude of 5.4*10^-5T and points in a direction that is 68 degrees below the horizontal. Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the top of a desk at this location that measures 76cm by 45cm.
earths magnetic field B =5.4 * 10-5 T
area A = 76 cm * 45 cm
= 3420cm2
= 3.420 m2
angle = 90 - 68degrees = 220
therefore ,magnetic flux is
B = B.ds
= BA cos(220)
So, I just need to know how to finish this with steps, since I keep getting it wrong.
Part B:
rt (a) of Problem 37, (a) find the force that nExplanation / Answer
magnetic flux is phi = B*A*cos(theta)
here theta is the angle between magnetic field B and area A of the desk
cos(90-68) = cos (22)
so magnetic flux is phi_B = B*A*cos(22) = 5.4*10^-5*0.76*0.45 = 1.85*10^-5 Wb
Part B)
1) current i = emf / R = (B*L*v)/R
2) speed is v = i*R/(B*L) = (1*R)/(B*L) = R/(B*L)
