Question

Homework help with F-J (second part please)
Vectors: A=50mm B=25mm C=34mm

Consider the following vectors: (a) Graphically, compute 2B. (b) Graphically, compute the vector A + B. (c) Graphically, compute the vector B - C. (d) Graphically, compute the vector C-B. (e) Graphically, compute the vector A - B + C. Consider the reference frame of the paper (that is to say that the origin is at the bottom left corner of the paper). What you've drawn can now be divided into components and we can do analytic calculations. In order for this to work we're going to have to measure these vectors, so use units of mm. (f) Determine the magnitude, direction, and Cartesian components of A, B, and C. (g) Determine the magnitude, direction, and Cartesian components of A + B. (h) Determine the magnitude, direction, and Cartesian components of B - C. (i) Determine the magnitude, direction, and Cartesian components of C -B. (j) Determine the magnitude, direction, and Cartesian components of A - B + C

Explanation / Answer

(F) Magnitude of A, B and C:-

Magnitude of A = 50

Magnitude of B= 25

Magnitude of C= 34

Cartesian product:

A= 50i+50j

B= -25i+25j

C= -34i - 34j

(G) A+B

magnitude of A+B = 50i - 25i = 25i = 25 (x component)

= 50j +25j = 75j =75(y component)

cartesian product of A+B = 50i+50j-25i+25j = 25i+75j

(H) B-C

Magnitude of B-C = -25i -(-34i) = -25i +34i = 9i= 9(x component)

= 25j -(-34j) = 25j+34j = 59j = 59(y component)

Certesian product of B-c = 9i+59j

(I) C- B

Magnitude of C-B = -34i - (-25i) = -34i+25i = -9i = 9(x component)

= - 34j - (25j) = -34j - 25j = -59j = 59(y component)

cartesian product of C-B = -9i-59j

(J) A-B+C

Magnitude of A-B+C = 50i-(-25i)-34i = 50i+25i-34i = 41i = 41(x component)

= 50j-25j-34j= -9j = 9(y component)

Cartesian prodect of A-B+C = 41i-9j
