Question
An insect 4.00 mm tall is placed 25.0 cm to the left of a thin planoconvex lens. The left surface of this lens is flat, the right surface has a radius of curvature of magnitude 12.1 cm , and the index of refraction of the lens material is 1.70.
Exercise 34.25 An insect 4.00 mm tall is placed 25.0 cm to the left of a thin planoconvex lens. The left surface of this lens is flat, the right surface has a radius of curvature of magnitude 12.1 cm and the index of refraction of the lens material is 1.70. Part A Calculate the location of the image this lens forms of the insect. AEG Submit My Answers Give Up Part B Calculate the size of the image. AE Submit My Answers Give U Part C previous 12 of 13 nexExplanation / Answer
Power P = (n-1)*(1/0.121 -0)
= (1.7-1)* (1/0.121 -0) = 5.785
by using lens formula,
1/o +1/i = 1/f
1/0.25 + 1/i = 5.785
1/i = 5.785-4 = 1.785
i = 1/1.785 = 0.56m = 56 cm
b) y' = y*i/o
= 4*56/25
= 8.96 mm.
